There are many reasons why you might approach a counsellor, I appreciate the courage this involves in taking the first steps and the feelings this could evoke such as anxiety, apprehension and ambivalence.
You may be seeking to change aspects of your life, resolve an issue that has been causing you distress or explore your thoughts and feelings in more depth. Counselling can offer you the space and freedom to do this in a safe and confidential environment.
My aim is to develop a relationship of trust and empathy. I will encourage you to talk about your concerns and any difficult feelings, through this process you may uncover the underlying cause and identify specific ways of thinking. Counselling can be helpful in developing a deeper awareness of ourselves and our relationships with others, past and present. We can work together to understand the meaning behind painful emotions and unhelpful patterns of behaviour.
The way in which I work is person centred, this means I can help you explore and utilise your inner strength and personal identity. To help you recognise your own capacity for self-healing and personal growth. My approach draws mainly on humanistic and existential theories, whilst integrating a range of creative interventions. This approach means I tailor my skills to a person's individual needs and personal circumstances. Through this way of working, I will consider you as a whole and help you explore aspects of your inner world: personal relationships and social environment as well as your values and beliefs. With the aim of helping you face each moment more openly and authentically.
